"These days, faith is a lot like Wisconsin: a series of repetitive ups and downs, the natural rise and fall of the road that stretches before you. Boring. Beautiful. Ridiculous sometimes, as when the road eases into the Wisconsin Dells and there are suddenly giant plastic animals and water slides and a huge haunted mansion tilted along the road."
- Addie Zierman, When We Were On Fire
Of course this had to be the first article I post on my blog, you might not know, but this city is very dear to my heart. Today I'm going to talk about Wisconsin Dells.
But before that, hi, this is Sandra, if that was not obvious already. Thank you for taking time out of your life to read here, if you are a future tourist or a J1 I hope this page will help you today to have a clearer vision of the place or if you are simply bored well you do you boo.
I am here to inspire, entertain and be useful with information.
Quick reminder: this post might a little too long, so that's that, you have been warned.
I cannot stress enough how much I love this beautiful city. This might be one of those posts that I feel the most confident to write about in the "Travel" category (other than my home town). I think the best way to write about a city is to have lived there. Just to be clear about it, I was not born in Wisconsin, I wasn't even born in the US. But I lived 3 beautiful summers in Wisconsin Dells and had the most amazing memories of my life there! So I do think I am qualified to talk about it.
Let's cut the introduction and start with what is Wisconsin Dells most known for:
Noah's Ark - The largest Aqua Park in the whole world is located in Wisconsin Dells, how cool is that?
I have been here several times and it is truely one of the biggest attractions. My favorite ride is Black Anaconda! The scariest ones are Scorpions Tail and The point of no end - these are not for the faint hearts!
This is a perfect place to go with family, friends or for couples. To go on every ride I say it would take up to 5-6 hours. My recommendation would be to spend a whole day there and enjoy! It is not a cheap destination for sure - 40$ per day - if you are a J1 you can go for free with the entertainment card.
Mount Olympus - is the second largest Aqua Park in the world - there was a big competition between the two parks of who to win the title of "the first".
Mount Olympus is still a cool place to visit, it also has an indoor water park. But compared to Noah's Ark the water theme park area is significally smaller.
But on the other hand, what Mount Olympus has something more special is the amusent park.
The most popular one is the Hades 360, you get the extreme rides - you need a lot of courage to ride them. You have 7 Go Kart rides, the most popular one is the iconic Trojan Horse which is a very popular image in the Dells.
I definetely love this place aswell. Fun fact: Mount Olympus has their own hotels where you can stay and have free entry in the whole parks area. TIps: if you want to buy tickets buy them online! They are only 3 to 6 dollars (depending on the day). But if you buy it directly from the office they might charge you up to 30$. So go on that website!
There are many mini golf places in the Dells - but my favorite is Pirate's Cove Adventure Golf - such a beautiful scenery in the heart of the Dells. It is perfect to spend some quality time at a good old mini golf with friends, family or in couple.
Bigfoot zipline - I always wanted to try the zipline, and on my 22nd birthday I did.
To be honest I was terrified, but the workers made you feel very safe and make the atmosphere very fun. It is a two hour zipline through the woods and water, remember to be dressed in sport wear. I'll letting you know right away it is a pricey - 90$ but I think it was worth it! Even if you are a J1 you can't go for free.
(photo: have you ever seen a sexier bigfoot?)
Of course you have other stuff such as ghost houses and temples, but I'm guessing still post is already long enough so I won't continue on details too much.
Hands down my favorite restaurant from all times is Kyoto Hibachi and Sushi - Sushi is my favorite food in the whole world.
This restaurant has the best food, no competition! And not only that, the owner and the workers are the kindest and most genuine people you will ever meet!
If you don't know what Hibachi is, it's basically a chef cooking in front of you and creating a fun atmosphere and entertainment.
The best sushi from the menu: Godzilla, Shogun, Leo or Dragon - you cannot go wrong with these.

For vegan options: delicious tofu with veggies
This is the only place where you can sit at a restaurant, eat and enjoy the show for free. The food is not as good. I had a salad (asked for no meat). The bread is amazing!! Must try!
High Rock Caffe - situated in downtown, best vegan wraps ever! Get a seat upstaires by the window.
The Cheeze Factory - 100% vegan restaurant
Probably one of the most famous hotel from Dells, Rome's Colosseum which is a Mount Olympus hotel and can have free aqua park access.
Hotel Flamingo, free access to Noah's Ark.
Although these hotels offer free water park access, my favorite hotel from the Dells is Quality Inn.
Every fall, there is a festival called Wo-Zha-Wa, where all the shops take out they stuff to sell on the street with big sales, and there are also carnival and parades.
Wisconsin Dells basically becomes a ghost town after the Wo-Zha-Wa festival, shops start to close and the entire town is empty. Restaurants are still open but they open only after 4PM. The Aqua Parks are closed starting from 1st October.
During winter there are skii resorts and indoor waterparks open, also the Zipline is open all year round, so if you do go in the winter you still find some activities.
Keep in mind Wisconsin is a very cold place during the winter, the best time to visit Dells is during spring, summer and fall. Never winter.
I'll end this post here, if you have any questions let me know in the comment section below, I'll try to reply as soon as possible.
